Alderney Bird Observatory Ringing Course - 20th to 27th April 2026
Alderney Bird Observatory Ringing Course - 20th to 27th April 2026The Alderney Bird Observatory will be running a week-long intense ringing course open to all UK and Channel Island permit holders (T, C and A permit holders). The course will be supported by three or four UK S permit holders (trainers and assessors) and possibly up to three Channel Island full permit holders. The purpose of the course is primarily to give experience to ringers seeking further training, assessment for permit upgrade and to improve the ringing and ornithological skills and communication of all participants. The ringing will be primarily mist netting of spring migrant passerines. However, other activities such as spring trapping, cage trapping, whoosh netting, roost netting, wader netting and dazzling will also be attempted and potentially assessed if required. We are still looking for one or two more UK S permit holders so if you are interested in supporting as a trainer please also contact Paul Roper for details. For an information pack and details on how to book please e-mail Paul Roper This email address is being protected from spambots. Kite sightings keep coming in
This week more sightings of our Kites. 4F has been confirmed again in the Wickham Bishop area in Essex and 2J has been sighted just down the road in Stapleford. This is the first sighting since it was ringed in a spring trap back in September. Pictures of both below.

First Common Tern sighting at Dungeness 10th August 2019
We have had our first Common Tern sighted at Dungeness by Martin Cassmore. Clearly on the way south let's hope it gets seen a few more times.
